STURGEONS

Sturgeon biology: from genetics to systematics.

In the section “Biology” are reported several sub-pages each of them referring to a particular aspect of the biology of sturgeons, from genetics to systematics, from controlled reproduction to stress resistance and physiology. No all the aspects of the sturgeon biology are covered in these pages, but some of the most peculiar aspects mainly related to the specific experiences of the WSCS members as well as to the most important activities of the society are here reported.

For specific competences and aspects we refer to the official sites specifically addressing in these activities, which are linked to the WSCS website. We do not consider it useful to repeat what is well done by other institutions already. For example in the case of the systematics, we readdress the visitor to the FishBase entry for each species. For conservation status of species we refer to the pages of the IUCN Red List.

Systematics

For each species you can find a link to FishBase, mainly for systematics issues, FAO, mainly for fishery and aquaculture issues and IUCN, mainly for the status of the species. The return to the Sistematics page means that the species is not present in that database.
