The Sturgeon Project of the Province of Venice has continued with the restocking efforts, and the latest release took place in recent days, as detailed below.

Thursday, November 28, 2024: Reintroduction of 150 individuals of the Adriatic sturgeon (Acipenser naccarii) – sub-adults, measuring between 70/100 cm, 2019 batch, with a total weight of 1 ton, in fulfillment of ichthyological obligations in the Metropolitan City of Venice, as authorized by the Region with Decree No. 684 of 06/09/2024.

The reintroduction site and quantity per water body are as follows:

The fish stock is provided by Azienda Storione Ticino Soc. Agr. s.s. – Cassolnovo (PV) – Giovannini family, and will be transported using a six-tank vehicle capable of performing water exchanges at the release site. The specimens have been genetically verified by the University of Padua – Department of Biology, under the direction of Prof. Leonardo Congiu.

Each Adriatic sturgeon specimen is equipped with an intramuscular microchip to ensure individual identification in case they are captured.
