The original version of this book was printed in Russian in 2022.
Lyudmila Krayushkina contacted us in November 2022, expressing her desire to have her work translated into English to benefit other researchers interested in the adaptive aspects of sturgeons and their conservation. We immediately agreed to review and edit the preliminary English version she would send us, which, given her health conditions, occurred in August 2023.
The English text was improved by the editor using AI (ChatGPT) assistance, with a detailed paragraph-by-paragraph check to ensure the text’s consistency. However, the most demanding and meticulous task was undertaken by Dr. Georgii Ruban, who verified the final English text against both Lyudmila’s initial English translation and the original Russian text. He deserves credit for the achieved result.
Unfortunately, Lyudmila passed away before she could see her book published in English.
I hope this work will be useful and appreciated by all those interested in the adaptive physiology and conservation of sturgeons.
