The “Adopt the Sturgeon” project was also launched with great enthusiasm, a pilot action of the UNESCO Po Grande MAB Reserve on the education and awareness of the coastal communities towards the river environment, through a great symbol of the Great River: the Cobice sturgeon.
The Po River Basin District Authority, together with researchers from the University of Parma and the Parco Lombardo della Valle del Ticino, have planned a series of activities that include face-to-face meetings in the classes of around 320 students from the coastal municipalities who have joined the initiative.
Today the first lesson was held at the Mario Borsa school in the Municipality of Somaglia, together with the first 60 students.
The meetings also include outings on the river where, together with the experts, various specimens of Cobice sturgeon will be marked and released in the Po that boys and girls will be able to “adopt”, following their movements through the dedicated website.
