On August 19th, 2021 the Polish Ministry of Climate and Environment
revoked the decision authorizing the construction of Siarzewo Dam on Vistula River that WSCS has questioned in a letter to the Minister! (See Newsletter No.5 2021)
This does not mean that the project is dead yet. Polish Water Authorities still have the option to appeal in court, which most probably will happen. “So we won some time for Vistula River!” states Alicja Pawelec, Freshwater Conservation Specialist of WWF Poland when thanking WSCS for their active support. Thus the decision by the Ministry provides a break in the implementation of the plans – approximately two years – for the allied NGOs and civil organizations to further support the Ministries decision in the courtcase that probably is to follow.
