Shared history of Acipenser sturio and Acipenser oxyrinchus in Western Europe
Despite the current efforts to design recovery strategies for sturgeon species in Western Europe, the historical distribution of Acipenser sturio and Acipenser oxyrinchus in the area remains unclear. Our project aims to summarize the current knowledge about the historical distribution of the two sturgeon species based on paleoclimatic and archaeozoological data from available literature. The objective is to commence work on the ecological niche modeling of the two sturgeon species and test different recovery scenarios in terms of species distribution overlapping. This work will provide evidence of the potential risks of reintroducing the two species simultaneously
